The 57-200 is Onsrud's two-flute downcut spiral for wood and composite wood.
A downcut spiral pushes chips and fibres down into the cut. That keeps the top face clean, which is why it's the usual choice for veneered and laminated panels where the top surface shows. The downward force also helps hold small parts on the table. The trade-off is that chips pack into the slot, so it works best on cuts that aren't too deep for the diameter.
Where it fits
- Veneered plywood, MDF and particleboard: clean top edges on dados, pockets and profiles.
- Laminated panels: when the bottom face doesn't matter or is supported by a spoilboard.
- Small-part nesting: the downward pull helps parts stay put.
Choosing a size
31 part numbers, from 1/8" to 3/4" cutting diameter and 3/8" to 2-1/8" cut length. Includes Marathon versions (57-278MD, 57-279MD). If you need both faces clean on a through-cut, use a compression bit such as the 60-100MW.
