Pick the material you're cutting — geometry and chipload matter far more than brand. Every bit lists its own manufacturer feeds and speeds on its product page.
Hardwood & Softwood2,013 bitsSolid wood. Chipload runs high — Onsrud specifies 0.014–0.016″ per flute at 1/4″ in hardwood.
Plywood & MDF2,011 bitsCompression spirals protect both face veneers. Top-face fuzz means upcut; bottom blowout means downcut.
Melamine & Particleboard259 bitsBrittle surface over a soft core. Compression geometry, a sharp edge, and don't under-feed.
Aluminum & Non-Ferrous190 bitsSingle or two flute, polished flutes, and lubrication — aluminum welds to the tool if chips can't clear.
Acrylic & Plastics155 bitsSingle-flute O-flute. Melting is almost always chipload too low, not feed too fast.
Fiberglass & Composites84 bitsAbrasive. Diamond-pattern and chipbreaker geometry to survive glass and carbon fibre.
