How to use it

These solid carbide CNC carving bits pair a small flat tip with a tapered body. The fine tip picks out detail. The taper keeps the tool stiff enough to reach deep without snapping. Unlike a ball nose, the flat bottom leaves flat floors and crisp pocket bottoms, which suits 2D and 3D relief carving, sign letters, raised panels, pattern making and mould work. The taper angle in the title is measured per side. A ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating adds edge life in abrasive materials such as MDF, HDU and composites. On the smallest tips, start with a light step-down and let the feed do the work. Too deep a pass is the usual way a tiny tip breaks.

Other sizes in this range: Amana 46581 (1 mm dia., 3 mm cut, 1/8 in. shank), Amana 46571 (1/64 in. radius, 1/32 in. dia., 0.445 in. cut, 1/8 in. shank), Amana 46572 (1/16 in. dia., 1 in. cut, 1/4 in. shank), Amana 46573 (1/8 in. dia., 1 in. cut, 1/4 in. shank).
