Description
The Amana Tool 46170-K is a premium Solid Carbide Spektra™ Extreme Tool Life Coated Compression Spiral Router Bit.
This tool features a unique nACo® nanocomposite coating. It provides extended life in wood, plywood, and abrasive laminate applications.
How a compression spiral works
A compression bit carries two opposed helices on a single blank: an up-cut flute at the tip and a down-cut flute above it, meeting at a transition point.
The two flutes shear toward each other and compress the material as they cut. That is what leaves both the top and the bottom face clean in a single pass — the reason to choose a compression bit over an up-cut or a down-cut.
Because the effect depends on that geometry, the cut must be deep enough for the transition point to sit inside the material. In a pass shallower than the up-cut portion, only the bottom face is compressed and the top face will still tear out.
This makes it the right tool for sizing and profiling double-sided laminated, melamine-faced and veneered panels, where both faces are visible.
