The Amana Tool 51777-Z is a solid carbide spiral “O” flute down-cut router bit with a 1/8″ cutting diameter and a 1/4″ shank, ZrN coated for cutting aluminium and other non-ferrous metals.
Why an O-flute for aluminium
The polished, open “O” flute gives the chip somewhere to go. Aluminium is soft and gummy, so a conventional wood flute packs and welds material to the cutting edge. The O geometry evacuates the chip instead, which is what keeps the edge clean and the tool alive.
The ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating adds surface hardness and lowers friction, further resisting the built-up edge that ends most aluminium cutters.
Down-cut geometry
The down-cut spiral presses the workpiece against the bed rather than lifting it. On thin sheet and tabbed nested parts that matters more than chip direction does.
Use on CNC machines and routers with automatic feeding only.
