Best for: CNC nested-based cutting of double-sided melamine, laminated particleboard, MDF and plywood, with clean top and bottom edges. Stocked at our Vaughan location for same-day dispatch. For 3/4" sheet stock, a 1/2" diameter tool with a 7/8" to 1-1/8" cutting length is the usual choice.
The 60-100MW is Onsrud's Max Life compression series. It's built for long tool life and clean top and bottom edges in wood and composite wood panels.
A compression bit has an upcut section at the tip and a downcut section above it. The two meet in the material, pushing the fibres inward from both faces. That's what keeps laminate and veneer from chipping on either side of a through-cut, without a second finishing pass.
Where it fits
- Melamine and laminated particleboard: cabinet parts and nested-based manufacturing.
- Veneered plywood and MDF: full-depth cuts with clean edges on both faces.
- Production nesting, where tool life between changes drives cost per sheet.
Choosing a size
11 part numbers, from 1/4" to 3/4" cutting diameter and 7/8" to 2-1/4" cut length. Set the depth so the upcut-to-downcut changeover sits inside the top laminate layer. If it sits below, the top face can chip. Single- and three-flute versions are listed separately.
