Compression bits cut upward and downward simultaneously within the same flute path, which presses material fibers inward from both the top and bottom faces instead of pulling them outward the way a standard up-cut or down-cut bit does. The result is a clean edge on both sides of the material in a single pass.
Most useful on laminates, MDF, plywood, and veneer boards — anywhere a visible top surface and a visible bottom surface both need to come out splinter-free, which a single-direction bit can't guarantee on its own.
