How to use it

These long high-speed steel bits are made for carving deep into thick foam blocks, such as the EPS and polyurethane used for signs, props, architectural shapes and moulds. Four up-cut flutes lift the chips out of a deep cut, and a titanium nitride (TiN) coating keeps the edges sharp and the flutes slick. Use a ball end for 3D surfacing and rounded detail, and a square end for flat-floored pockets and straight profiles. Do not exceed 6,000 RPM. A long, slender tool whips at high speed, so make up the cutting rate with feed instead of spindle speed. Foam takes a heavy chip load, and a too-light feed melts the cut instead of cutting it.

Other sizes in this range: Amana HSS1203 (1/4 in. radius, 1/2 in. dia., 8 in. cut, 1/2 in. shank), Amana HSS1204 (1/4 in. radius, 1/2 in. dia., 6 in. cut, 1/2 in. shank), Amana HSS1205 (1/4 in. radius, 1/2 in. dia., 6 in. cut, 1/2 in. shank), Amana HSS1210 (1/4 in. dia., 4 in. cut, 3/8 in. shank).
