How to use it
A template bit copies a pattern onto your workpiece. The guide bearing sits on the shank above the cutting edges and is the same diameter as the cutter, so whatever shape the bearing follows on the template is reproduced exactly in the part. In a handheld router the template goes on top of the work. On a router table it goes underneath. Because the bit also cuts on its tip, you can plunge it to start an internal cutout without drilling a starter hole. The smallest bits in this range use a 3/16 in. or 1/4 in. bearing, which lets you follow tighter inside curves. An inside corner can never be sharper than half the bit diameter. Pick the shortest cutting length that covers your stock: a shorter bit deflects less and leaves a cleaner edge.
Other sizes in this range: Amana 47228 (1/2 in. dia., 1-1/4 in. cut, 1/2 in. shank), Amana 45361 (9/16 in. dia., 3/4 in. cut, 1/4 in. shank), Amana 47226 (3/8 in. dia., 1 in. cut, 1/2 in. shank), Amana 47229 (5/8 in. dia., 1-1/4 in. cut, 1/2 in. shank).
